"WISCONSIN-OUR HOME"

3rd ANNUAL JURIED ART CONTEST; 2010

27 artists from across Wisconsin—La Crosse to Crandon, Ogdensberg to Antigo, and many points between. Their 41 works of art challenged our judges—Curt Knoke, Gresham, and Alicia Rheal, Madison. Diverse media which included oil, acrylic, watercolor, collages, photographs, and fiber arts presented a visually stunning display.

"Best of Show"

Best of Show was awarded Matt Duckett, La Crosse, for his oil, “Out Back.” Matt lives in La Crosse where he and Jenn Bushman established the Green Bay Street Studio in 2008 as an outlet for their own artistic impulses as well as for similarly minded individuals in the community. A recent graduate of the UW La Crosse with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and English, he is the first and only student to be commissioned by the University to create a work for the Murphy Library Collection and to paint a portrait of the Chancellor. To view other work of Mr. Duckett, see the mural that he and Ms. Bushman created on the Goga Eye Clinic—“Color Findness.”

Each year the art contest show opens during Wittenberg Days, the second weekend in June. The theme for 2011 will be that there is not a theme, allowing artists to have their creative urges flow in all directions. Watch “Community Events” on the web site for dates to submit entries for 2011 as well as the contest requirements.
