Beau Smith
As a kid, Beau's backyard in down town Charleston, SC, was filled to the brim with metal sculpture--abstract, figurative, whimsical: "My back yard was like a bizarre Martian landscape..with all
wild sculptures..."
Beau and his brother, Alexander, both create frogs from copper, work independently and occasionally show together.
Stepping into Beau's workshop in Smyrna, GA, is like stepping into another world of wonder, enchantment and fun. As he hammers, bends and welds copper, the raw materials come to life as animated
charismatic frogs. They bring abundant joy, allowing people to reconnect with nature and innocence.
Beau learned the art and craft of metal sculpturing from his father , Charles, who was the family's original frog sculptor. Beau graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in film and
illustration. Strangely enough, this background prepared him for the art he would later make as the frog sculptures have an animated quality. He exhibits permanently in several botanical gardens
around the county.
