Ram Rojas

Ram's capacity to work in various media is only the beginning of his mastery. It was obvious even at a young age that Ram's talent would not go unnoticed. As early as 1970, when he was only years old, he began his studies at the National Art Academy in Caracas. From there, his natural talent launched his career.

Ram was chosen to travel to the United States. Following extensive study in Los Angeles he participated in shows in Los Angeles, New York and West Virginia where his art is on permanent display.

Despite his young age, an international publishing company took notice of Mr. Rojas's talent and took him to Europe--predominantly Florence--to study classical art, then on to India where he mastered the fine techniques of oriental art. Ram's works were published in books and multi-language publications around the world, illustrating the history, religion, art, mythology, philosophy and science of world cultures.

Ram's subjects range from beautiful classical oils to impeccably rendered watercolors. Capable of working with the artistry of an airbrush, his delicate drawings and portraits as well as frescos and sculpture confirm his patience and knowledge of natural beauty and technique.

In the last two decades Mr. Rojas has continued his artistry in the upper Midwest of the scenic Great Lakes. Working from his studio and gallery in beautiful Door County, he continues to do commissioned as well as noncommissioned works. Often these renderings take on a dimensionality that encapsulates individuals or families within their own life narrative. A series of watercolors and oils of the upper Midwest include landscapes as well as important Door County landmarks.

Mr. Rojas's spiritual life is demonstrated by donations of his time and talent. His painting of Mary of Guadalupe, partly funded by The Wisconsin Arts Board and The Peninsula Arts Association, can be found in the St. Joseph Retreat Center Chapel. In 2004, in conjunction with the unveiling of this work, Rojas had a solo art show at the Links Gallery and lectured on the topic of iconology.

Mr. Rojas also donated hundreds of hours of labor and talent when he gave Victory, a magnificent water fountain sculpture of sturgeon and fisherman, to the Sturgeon Bay Chamber of Commerce and Help of Door County for their annual auction. The piece won first price and the People's Choice Award.

Ram conceived and painted The Foundation of Faith fresco. This historical mural, honoring the spiritual birth of the village of Wittenberg, WI, portrays a larger-than-life angel embracing three cherubs amongst a myriad of other symbols. Rojas is a Director of Student Artist Internships for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and in this position he will supervise students painting murals.

While sustaining community involvement, Mr. Ram Rojas fervently continues his work, confirming his endless patience and commitment to art, in his studio in Sturgeon Bay, WI.
