"You Can't Work All The Time"

This mural was created by Adam Turman.

The bowling alley mural depicts various sports that thrive in Wisconsin.  Turkey hunting, fly-fishing, deer hunting, and snowmobiling fit perfectly on the side of the bowling alley because many of the people who frequently drop pins like to hunt, fish, and ride their sleds.

The WOW committee hired me to create this mural because they liked my style.  My work is bold, graphic, eye-catching, and uses bright colors.  they had nothing like it within the Walls of Wittenberg, and we knew the work would stand out.

The bowling alley has 6 large panels to work in separated with cinder block columns.  Each panel was sketched on paper to exact scale of the actual wall.  The work is then scanned into the computer and manipulated in Photoshop to create one long black and white sketch that I'd then send to the WOW Committee to get approval.  Once approved, the black and white sketch was colored in Photoshop.

My assistant (Brian Geihl www.dogfishmedia.com) and I use a grid system with chalk lines and cheat sheets that have grid work on them (1 inch = 1 foot ratio) to transfer the paper sketch to the wall.  Once the entire sketch is up on the wall, we can start filling in shapes with color.  We use stock paint, so there is no mixing of colors.  Multiple quarts of paint are used, and each color is selected from swatch books.  The base coat of paint is applied to the walls using rollers.  The final detail work is done with small brushes.

I want to extend my thanks to the WOW committee for hiring me.  It was a pleasure working with them and experiencing the lovely town of Wittenberg.  Adam Turman

This unique, new style continues our tradition of making sure each mural is different from the others.  And, yes, Reverend Homme is in the mural!
